Marky Mark!

Marky Mark, known nowadays as Mark Wahlberg - the now famous and talented actor of hits such as the new Planet of the Apes, Rock Star and The Truth About Charlie was once a 'rapper' in the early 1990's.

People of the generation may remember 'New Kids on the Block', a boy band that Mark was involved with for a short time before landing himself some jailtime, while Mark was in prison his older brother Donnie (Also an actor, Bruce Willis' killer in The Sixth Sense, cop in Saw2) was hitting the big time music wise and managed to set Mark up with a recording contract. Despite Mark's poor vocals, he managed to record one of the most popular singles of 1992, "Good Vibrations". This song samples the same track by Loleatta Holloway as Black Box's "Ride on Time" which you can find if you scroll down a bit.

So, here it is, the oddly homo-erotic "Good Vibrations" (Not associated with the 1966 classic)

90's Doof of the Week

I'm sure we all remember Dannii Minogue, from her 2002 smash hit "Put the Needle on it". But you may not be aware that she was even more tacky in the 90's! As featured on last week's show, it's the video to Dannii's "All I wanna do", which shows a classy sophisticated take on the Internet and computers from a 90's perspective.

I'm not normally a big fan of Australia's Funniest Home Videos style movies, but this was far too 90's to ignore, I present to you the best christmas ever!

I cant wait to have kids one day so I can brainwash my children into thinking a console from 1997 is the best present ever, that reaction live would be priceless. Keep Doofing it Mate! MC Survey

Corona - Baby Baby

You guessed it, more awesome 90's euro-doof this week. As we've complained about before, it's often impossible to find actual live not-mimed versions of 90's hits on Youtube. But Corona has come to the rescue, another Italian doof outfit from 1994. Corona's vocalist Olga Souza recently started a new tour and released a new song, which hasn't done very well anywhere. Anyhow for this week's video roundup here is an actually live version of a 90's hit, "Baby Baby" by Corona presented live in Croatia recently.

Two awesome Youtube videos

I recently had yet another massive 90's flashback recently, to the awesome early 90's hip-hop outfit House of Pain, whose hit Jump Around everyone must have heard sampled in at least one other song, while doing my usual research for the site I found out that in 1996 the band actually split up and the lead singer decided he wanted to be a blues singer. As a solo artist, Everlast recorded a 90's song you thought you'd never hear again... named "What it's Like", today we bring you both nearly polar opposite yet incredibly 90's songs.

S.O.A.P.

Another Youtube post today, yet more 1998 pop/commercial dance classics this week as we continue with S.O.A.P.'s "This is how we party", a song so corny and 1998 that it defies explaination. S.O.A.P. were two random Danish chicks of Malaysian descent who hit it big in the late 90's with Ladidi Ladida #15 AU & This Is How We Party #1 DK, #1 SE, #7 AU, (US Top 20), #36 UK. Funny how they'd never let anyone know what their name stood for, I guess 8 years on we finally know

Apparantly back in 2000 they were the opening act to Savage Garden's Europe tour, how cool is that?! Anyhow, check out this fantastic example of how awesome and retro something can be that was only 8 years ago! For some reason this week's video can't be embedded in the site, so please navigate to the Youtube link here

Public Transport - We need your support!

No this post isn't one of the typical 'please, please donate me some money because I cant afford the US$10/month for the website' posts seen on many, many 90's websites, Public Transport want YOU to get involved with getting your friends, random people, anyone to listen in! In order to do this, we've recently produced a flyer we'd love for you to randomly tape up to anythig and everything you can, or just give them out to your friends.

In order to view/print the file you'll need the draconian 90's survivor, Adobe Acrobat Reader, to download the .PDF for our ad, right click here and press 'save target as'. (Please don't print out the picture from this newspost, the .PDF is much higher quality)

Another Youtube roundup, Things 90's Sci Fi fanatics do that nobody'll ever appreciate

Everybody knows Star Trek and Star Wars geeks, it's been done. But apparently there's another type of fanatic subculture that just isn't quite as common but quite a bit weirder: People obsessed with long dead 90's Sci-Fi shows, like Seven Days, Quantum Leap, Early Edition, and my personal fave, Sliders. I'm sure everyone remembers watching Sliders slowly destroy itself in the mid to late 90's on Ch10 every Thursday at 8:30. The show's creators gradually all quit in disgust as Fox changed the show from being based on social commentary and alternate Earths to being a show about crazy looking aliens named "Kromaggs" who end up killing off all the original cast except Rembrandt. (The black guy. Remember him? Yeah, he was mad.)

For your viewing pleasure this week we present two videos, first the full, uncut 'Cry Like A Man', from the pilot episode of Sliders, apparently co-written by Australia's Paul Kelly. The second of which is a scary fan made tribute to Sliders Season 1-2, featuring a Styx song I had never heard outside of South Park.

Black Box - Classic 90's Doof!

Everyone remembers that awkward period of the odd dance music from 1989-1991, that sort of weird limbo where music wasn't quite sure where to go after the chafeboard that was the most of the 80's, bands like Black Box, Technotronic, 2Unlimited and the like flourished, and then were shortly forgot during the rapid moving mid 90's. Some champ has recently put up this video from Black Box's 1989 classic "Ride on time", recently played on our radio show. Another hillariously random fact is the song's title "Ride on Time" came about because the guys in the band misheard the record they were sampling! The lyrics are really Cause you're right on time. As was happening more and more often, the woman in the video is not the woman singing the vocals, you're watching an Italian transexual named Catherine Quinol who can't speak a word of English badly mime! Make sure to check it out!

No Icons, No National Monuments? Sounds like New York!

Guest rant from Biggy K

If you've read the title of this post then I am sure you're thinking I'm a retarded eight year old whoring for attention. Well please do so, but instead of directing that comment at me direct to Department of Homeland Security! Yes, it would seem like this particular department hadn't gotten much attention lately and decide to cut New York's anti-terror fund from 207.5 million to 124.4 million. To milk the media's attention even more, the reasoning behind these large cuts is because New York actually has quote “no national monuments or icons ”. They're right though. I mean I never got the whole statue thing. What's it called again? Oh yeah, THE STATUE OF LIBERTY! Seriously though, who visits New York for an irreplaceable, once in a life-time French gift when you can see prostitution, drugs and poverty! In conjunction with this, the Department of Homeland security has the audacity to say that “New York City doesn't have any high visibility national icons”. WTF M8?! No high visibility nation icons? The fucker is over 151 ft and that's not counting the pedestal. Plus, which crack-pot conservative decided that the isn't something national? I suppose it wouldn't have any symbolic national meaning any more since this Bush administration practically obviated freedom and liberty out of the country.

Ok, so maybe such things like the statue of liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and Rockefeller centre aren't things that effect New York's economy directly (Who the hell am I kidding?). However, even the New York Stock exchange isn't granted protection! Not only that but this “form”doesn't even regard New York as THE place for the world financial markets and states that it only has four major bank assets. The city is the home to some of the worlds major corporations and some 8,000,000 citizens. I'd say Bush is attempting to get an approval rating lower than ground zero. Anyone agree?

Public Transport, back on track for the big comeback!

Guess what people, we're back in a big way, we'll soon have a timeslot as we have now found out exactly who to talk to at the station, as the previous program director is no longer involved (Shame, he was and I'm sure still is a very cool guy). Anyhow, in other news, Public Transport after a year of inactivity will soon be performing again, providing we can write some material in the next 8 weeks or so, as the band has been invited back to the Ryde battle of the Bands, after playing a few Beastie Boys covers and coming 5th.

It seems that I can't be involved, because I'm not under 18, or living in Ryde, but I'll find some way to get involved with the act either directly or indirectly. Wish us luck guys, will keep you updated.

Best regards

Another 90's song you thought you'd never hear again

I recently re-discovered Ace of Base, kings of awful synth pop you remember tapping your foot to in the car in 1995 listening to 2DayFM with Ugly Phil & Jackie O. We recently also purchased legit their terrible first album, and wanting to hear more, I acquired a copy of their second. Check out this catchy hit, with a chorus I'm sure you all remember.

Anyhow, here it is

Hey

Hey. My name is Kram3r. I'm sometimes known as Biggy K. Although I'd like to be known as Ultra super sexy beast. Now, I post in here because I'm in fact one of the member comprising of this organisation.

I'm known to have long hair, cool kat attitude and totally crazy non-conventional style of doing everything. Now many people ask me this, and I never get tired of responsing to this question. I fact, I'm flattered when people asked. Yes, my penis is naturally that long as it is shown in Crew Sluts 4: Blow jobs & more! My Penis is in fact 10' inches.

I love movies. I love music. I love my Mega Drive. I love life. I love the chicks.

Ask me questions if you wish about any subject and I will try my best to answer them to the best of my ability.

I thought I share a rap here:

Scatman John - Hey You / U-Turn

As long time fans of Scatman John, Art and myself were excited to hear that there was an alternate version of his obscure gem "U-Turn" from the second album "Everybody Jam!". Art kindly purchased a copy of the "Song of Scatland" single off Ebay for me as a Christmas present and I thought you guys might be interested in hearing the progression between the two different versions.

This is the version from the B-side of the first album's third (awful, just awful) single, "Song of Scatland", "Hey You!"

This is the remake, from Sukattman Chon's second album, Everybody Jam, the much better "U-Turn" which, strangely, pre-empts the MSN alert sample in the first verse.

Adventures in Dodgy 90's TV, Part 2

I've found yet another video from the 90's Classic ReBoot
Check it out

2005 - A Year in Review

As I sit here listening to Prahlad's "It's up to you", I've decided to do a quick wrap up of everything that's happened to me significantly this year. Tell us what significantly happened to you if you like,

2005 started out for me with continuing the holiday job of Telemarketing, saving up money to waste on shit I didn't really need. Early in Jan, I went to my first Big Day out, and later that week was crushed hardcore by a massive ammount of sweaty men while the Beastie Boys played. MOST INTENSE experience ever. (Not in a good way).

Later on, I made my way to Uni, where I wasted alot of time, used my iPod alot, and got Broadband (Welcome to the 21st Century for me), and a Wireless router .

The year for me musically can be summed up as this (Like, not what I'm into but what's on teh nova)
Emo/Punk ZOMG bullshit
Overplayed/Novaplayed pop ala Black Eyed Steffani
Random (The Frog), Akon, etc, often featuring really annoying samples (Madonna's ABBA riff for example)

2005 also featured the start of Public Transport, originally an idea that I had that Art and myself should perform Beastie Boys covers on various forms of Public Transport (Puttin' Shame on your Game on the 518 for example).Because of my workload at Uni, this never really happened, I think Kramer and Art did one song on a bus somewhere. Public Transport the Band went on to have a Wiki page that was so frequently vandalized it was deleted, and Art and Kramer played at the Ryde battle of the Bands @ HCCR while I listened via my phone at a train station.

2005 also was a year of the radio for myself, as Art randomly came on MSN one morning and told me that he had a spot on a Shoutcast server, I thought what a cool idea, having just got broadband, and setup a server myself, this lasted a few months with myself, Augusto, Art, Tom and once or twice Blizzard and Kalev broadcasting, and some other guy who is a friend of Tom's who couldn't work out the incredibly simple Shoutcast controls. Shoutcast was an incredible ammount of fun, Art and myself actually printed up flyers around Rozelle which got us a total of zero extra listeners. The main downfall of the Shoutcast was it's success, as my ADSL's upload is only a humble 256kbit, i.e. at minimum quality we'd get between 9-11 listeners working properly. Because of this, the whole service collapsed, as we tried to move over to a server located in Israel of all places, and it just didn't work, we haven't broadcasted since on the net, even though the facilities are now available again via a kindly donated box in the US.

Following this, Art took a course @ 2RRR the local community station, and after it was complete, we begun podcasting , this was around August 05, initially we just were learning how to use the equipment and practice, however we are still no closer to having an actual show We've had alot of fun there, and built a small but dedicated group of listeners, who we appreciate immensely. The main change for myself really was having to own music to play it, as we can get bashed maens by the ARIA/RIAASL for not owning SoulDracula legit, hence Ashwoods, "Smell", Martin's and Rozelle markets have become regular weekend hangouts for Art and myself trying to get new material.

2005 was also the year of the New Radicals, the Scatman John, Soul Dracula, Prahlad, Westpac Jingle and Eiffel65, most importantly, 2005 was the year of peace, can you make sure that our human rights increase I have no expectation of anyone other than Art to get that, Meaning that 2005 was a wonderful year for second hand music.

2005 was the year of the iPod and Mp3 player Tell me I'm wrong, I won't agree with you, nearly everyone got interested in the iPod this year (I got mine in Dec04, so I'm kinda included), 2005 is the year of the 512mb iPod Shuffle, the 4gb pink iPod Mini blasting Simple Plan from the girl sitting next to you on the bus' ears. I must be some reverse reblel, because I went backwards and bought a Minidisc player, totally 90's and in total 90's style it lasted like 10 weeks and died.

2005 in movies has continued the remake theme, as we all know, there have been some great movies this year, but honestly overall only three or four of the ~30-40 movies I saw at an actual cinema really did anything for me.

My taste in music has also significantly changed over the last 12 months, I've nearly done a complete U-Turn from 24 months ago (be ba bado be ba ba ba do HERE IT IS), moving from doof, to pop, to rock, to the 90's.

What is Public Transport all about?

Public Transport, in it's current incarnation is composed of M.C. Brown Shoes, MC Survey and Biggy K, the dynamic trio that is responsible for hits such as tile shop, Olypmic Park, 442, Megabuxx Contraxx and Canberra. However, we have been driven out of the rap game due to sheer lack of inspiration

Currently, Public Transport having recieved a large response from the more popular than anticipated online radio show, are attempting to get a show on 2RRR 88.5 FM, a local Ryde radio station. However, we keep getting shafted, and the only available shift is 2-5am on Wed.

However, despite the gronks at station management shafting us with time slots, we have managed to secure an interview with a celebrity before we even have a time slot, Mr Simon Hunt also known as Pauline Pantsdown.
